What does "GOC" stand for?                                                                          german

"GOC" is an abbreviation for Gay-Outdoor-Club (which explains just about everything). Regional groups of the GOC also exist in Munich, Hanover and Berlin.

What is the purpose of the GOC Rhine Main?

The GOC Rhine Main stems from a gay hiking club, which was associated with the Frankfurt Volleyball Club (FVV), the first hiking tour took place at 07.09.1996. We hope to continue our cooperation with the FVV as well as other gay hiking groups in Germany and maybe even abroad. We are not an association, therefore, we don't require membership fees and meet without the problems of hierarchical structures. Anyone can join or organize a hike!

What does the GOC Rhine Main do?

Once a month the GOC Rhine Main hikes somewhere in the region. Anyone eager or hearty enough to hike is welcome to join us. Participants come from Frankfurt and the surrounding Rhine Main region, and even others from the 'rest of the world' are invited to come along!

Most of our hiking tours are between 15 and 25 km. Typical hiking areas are in the hills (i.e. mountains) of Taunus, Odenwald, Rhön, and Spessart (with peaks up to 900 m) or in the vineyard regions of Rheinhessen, Rheingau and Unterfranken as well as the river valleys of the Rhine, Main, Lahn, Nahe and Kinzig. In the future we would like to start up half-day hikes on Sunday afternoons (or bicycle tours during the summer season). The sky is the limit; we just need hike coordinators to make it happen.

Normally, we use public transportation to reach our hiking area, which is not only advantageous for the environment, it also spares us the stress of planning car pools. Thus, everyone can be spontaneous in deciding to come without having to register beforehand. At the meeting point groups of up to five people purchase a 'Schönes Wochenende' ticket from German Rail (Deutsche Bahn) or a group ticket from RMV.

The specific hike details are posted here on the homepage approximately 10 days prior to the event.

We could also include you in the email announcement, if you like. Before every hike you will receive a personal announcement. Just use the link Kontakt an we can contact you directly.

Currently, we only have hikes in our program. However, other events such as bicycle tours and canoe trips are also possible. We encourage everyone to organize a tour: mail, fax or call us!

What other things of importance should you consider?

Participation on the hikes is at your own risk! Claims of liability to the disadvantage of the event organizer are completely ruled out. Each participant recognizes this statement as symbolized by his/her participation on a hike.

The necessary gear for a hike is the responsibility of each participant.

What additional service does the GOC Rhine Main offer?

Maybe you're familiar with the following problem! You would love to go on a hike or bike tour, however, you don't know of anyone at the moment to accompany you. We have a solution for such problems. Write us an email and we can announce the hike/bike tour here in the GOC calendar. Then, those interested in participating can contact you.

Your email should contain the date, meeting point, means of transportation and a short description of the tour. For everyone else, a quick peek at the homepage will be surely worthwhile. Maybe everyone can find or organize something they enjoy.

We hope to see you on the next tour!

Greetings from the webmaster for the GOC Rhine Main Team
